VIP – Vocational Individual Program
VIP programming is designed for students who have a mild – moderate cognitive delay (assessed with an IQ between 75 and 55 (+/- 5) and social skill difficulties.
Students will benefit from a modified academic program in core subject areas of Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. It is important that students are provided a program consistent with the provincial Program of Studies provided to typical same-aged students.
Students are provided a specialized program to enhance functional literacy, vocational, academic and social skills.
Students are provided opportunities to be included in other classes or complementary courses with same-aged non-disabled peers to support appropriate social behaviours.
Staffing includes a certificated Special Education teacher and Educational Assistant, as needed.
School referrals are made to the Director of Special Education along with each student’s IPP (Individual Program Plan), behaviour data, and school-based Learning Team meeting notes documenting school-based interventions. A recent psycho-educational assessment must also be provided to ensure eligibility.
